MICCI Northern Annual Luncheon Dialogue 2025 with the Chief Minister of Penang
MICCI Northern successfully hosted its 11th Annual Luncheon Dialogue on 3 June 2025 at The Olive Tree Hotel, continuing a tradition that began in 2013. This year’s event holds special significance as MICCI celebrates its 188th anniversary, marking nearly two centuries of service to Malaysia’s business community. Notably, the Chamber was first established in Penang in 1837, underscoring the state's historical importance in Malaysia's economic development.
Held with the theme “Penang On The Rise – Focusing on Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Innovation,” the 2025 dialogue brought together a distinguished gathering of business leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the state. It served as a dynamic platform to exchange insights on the region’s geopolitical landscape, upcoming infrastructure developments, and sustainable economic strategies.
We were deeply honoured with the presence of YAB Mr Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, who shared his perspectives on the state’s current geopolitical and economic outlook. His keynote address underscored Penang’s vision for inclusive growth and innovation-led development, reaffirming the state’s commitment to being a forward-looking hub for investment and talent.
In his address, YAB Mr Chow Kon Yeow emphasized that Penang must not only respond to global uncertainties but lead through them. He highlighted the state's critical role in global supply chains, particularly in sectors such as semiconductors, precision tools, and medical devices. He noted that while recent international trade tensions pose challenges, they also presented opportunities for Penang to assert its leadership through resilience and innovation. He commended the Federal Government's proactive diplomatic efforts in mitigating potential trade impacts and stressed the importance of agility and competitiveness among local businesses.
The luncheon also featured engaging discussions between the attendees and YAB Mr Chow, offering a valuable opportunity for direct engagement on key issues affecting the business community. The discussion covered a range of important topics including infrastructure development, intellectual property protection, and tourism growth. YAB Mr Chow was notably candid throughout the session, addressing each question with clarity and confidence, demonstrating that he had the facts and insights at his fingertips. MICCI members were able to share their insights, raise concerns, and explore collaborative pathways toward strengthening Penang’s position as a hub for sustainable and innovative progress.
