MICCI Meeting With Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) And The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region In Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)

MICCI Strengthens Regional Collaboration with MinDA and BARMM
On 26th May 2025, the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) was honoured to be invited to a high-level meeting with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), held at The Ritz-Carlton.
MICCI was represented by Mr. Kelvin Kee, General Committee Member; Mr. Lee Han Ling, Executive Director; and Ms. Fatin Nur Lyana, MICCI Advocacy. From MinDA, the delegation
was led by Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno, Chairperson, and Romeo M. Montenegro, Assistant Secretary. The BARMM delegation included Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua,
Interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Mr. Mohamad Omar Pasigan, Chairperson of the Bangsamoro Board of Investments.
This meeting provided a valuable platform for open dialogue on strengthening economic ties and exploring new investment opportunities between Malaysia and Mindanao. Discussions focused on priority sectors such as palm oil, renewable energy, logistics, halal industry, and Islamic financing.
MinDA and BARMM leaders highlighted Mindanao’s commitment to fostering an investorfriendly environment, unified tax incentives, and a dynamic workforce. The recent passage of
the CREATE-MORE law and ongoing reforms were presented as significant steps to attract both local and international investors. The region’s potential in agribusiness, sustainable
energy, logistics infrastructure, halal certification, and Islamic finance was underscored as key drivers for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
MICCI shared Malaysia’s experience in these sectors, emphasizing the importance of strong public-private partnerships and cross-border collaboration. The meeting explored opportunities to leverage BIMP-EAGA’s expanded economic corridors and initiatives to further integrate supply chains and value-added processing across the sub-region.
This meeting marks a new chapter in regional cooperation. MICCI reaffirms its commitment to supporting its members and partners in exploring vibrant opportunities in Mindanao and looks forward to continued collaboration with MinDA and BARMM to drive sustainable economic growth across Southeast Asia.
