Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Courtesy Visit by Japan's Consul General to MICCI Perak
MICCI Perak had the distinct honour of hosting Mr. Machida Shinya, the newly appointed Consul General of Japan to Northern Malaysia, on 12th June 2025 for a courtesy visit. This engagement reaffirmed the longstanding economic and diplomatic ties between Japan and Malaysia, particularly across the northern region encompassing the states of Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Although officially appointed in November 2024, Mr. Machida is no stranger to Malaysia, having previously served in the country during his diplomatic tenure. His return signals a renewed commitment to strengthening Japan’s presence in the region.
The meeting was led by Mr. Jean-François Chavérat, Chairman of MICCI Perak Branch, accompanied by ExCo members and Mr. Kozutsumi Yuji, Managing Director of Nihon Superior Sdn Bhd—also a MICCI Perak member and representative of the JACTIM Perak Chapter. The delegation engaged in a constructive discussion with the Consul General on strengthening collaboration between Japanese and Malaysian companies.
Discussions focused on key topics including challenges faced by foreign investors, trade facilitation, investment opportunities, and the potential collaborative roles of MICCI Perak and JACTIM in supporting Japanese businesses in the state. The session also served as a platform to highlight MICCI’s continuous efforts in championing international business interests through advocacy, policy engagement, and strategic networking initiatives.
Both parties expressed a shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and creating a more conducive environment for economic partnerships.
MICCI Perak sincerely thanks the Consul General and the Japanese delegation for this meaningful exchange and looks forward to continued collaboration that will benefit both nations’ business communities.
